An Arizona judge is now saying that the entire process currently used is illegal. If the decision holds up, it will require sweeping changes before the next election.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Not Legal<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Yavapai County Superior Court Judge John Napper just turned the state of Arizona on its ear. He stated that the law is \u201cclear and unambiguous\u201d on this matter. He was referring to the law that ballot signatures are supposed to be compared to the voter registration card.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">BREAKING: Arizona Judge rules that the State&#39;s CURRENT mail-in ballot signature verification process is unlawful and they violated the law in both the 2020 &amp; 2022 elections. <\/p>\n<p>&quot;In this case, the 2019 Election Protocol Manual remains in effect. It contains an incorrect definition\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/FKwCL9VMOD\">pic.twitter.com\/FKwCL9VMOD<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; George (@BehizyTweets) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BehizyTweets\/status\/1699476429426286701?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 6, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>What has been happening, however, is that officials are using other documents received to compare signatures.<\/p>\n<p>The current guidelines issued by the Secretary of State say that election officials \u201cshould also consult additional known signatures from other official election documents in the voter\u2019s registration record, such as signature rosters or early ballot request forms.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pima County Recorder Gabriella Cazares-Kelly tried to explain why they use additional records to verify signatures.<\/p>\n<p>She stated, \u201cAs everybody should know, signatures vary by time and place and how much time you have.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou will change your signature a number of times throughout your life, going from adolescent to full adulthood.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She added, \u201cEvery single time we receive something in writing, it goes into their voter file.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo every single thing that has a signature on it, it is another indication, another touch point, another opportunity to update what those signatures look like.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Something tells me that Napper\u2019s decision is going to get overturned on appeal.<\/p>\n<p>Either that or legislators will end up changing the laws to match the current policy of the Secretary of State.<\/p>\n<p>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/azcapitoltimes.com\/news\/2023\/09\/06\/arizona-judge-rules-common-practice-of-validating-ballot-signatures-illegal\/\">AZ Capitol Times<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A very common practice used throughout Arizona to validate ballot signatures is now in question.
