Recently, renowned actor Alec Baldwin may be facing potential charges after a tragic shooting incident on the set of the film “Rust.”
Forensic experts have reportedly produced evidence that could lead to criminal charges against him.
This news comes as a shock to many who have watched and admired Baldwin for decades.
It appears there are several unanswered questions regarding this case which will need to be addressed in court.
A report commissioned by the State of New Mexico concluded that the trigger of the prop Colt .45 revolver had been pulled “sufficiently” enough to cause it to fire, leading to the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
Santa Fe County District Attorney’s Office had initially charged Baldwin with involuntary manslaughter.
However, these charges were later dismissed due to possibly malfunctioning gun evidence found at the scene.
Assistant director David Halls accepted a plea for negligent weapon use while armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed was also charged with manslaughter and pled not guilty, with her trial slated for December 2022.
The prosecution has presented photos of Baldwin holding what appears to be a functioning weapon prior to the incident occurring, along with images from before he rehearsed with it on set.
Furthermore, upon reassembling this gun, no modification evidence was found despite some parts being damaged from the incident—the full-cock step on hammer having been severely damaged and top sear trigger broken off—and thus indicating that it operated properly according to its original design.
It is clear here that all three individuals involved in this situation failed in their responsibilities and should be held accountable for their actions in order for justice to prevail in this case.
Baldwin has continually denied pulling any triggers or being aware that live rounds were present on set.
However, given current evidence presented against him, it remains possible that criminal charges will once again be filed against him within 60 days if it can be determined definitively through further testing that his weapon did not malfunction when fired off accidentally during filming.
The DA’s office is expected make a final charging decision soon based on their investigation results so far—which includes photos featuring him carrying a now reassembled gun—so until then we’ll have wait and see what happens next as more information becomes available regarding this case moving forward over time.
