When it came to sports, basketball was pretty big where I grew up.
You see, we had a lot of cold weather throughout the year and we ended up spending most of the time inside.
Which, one of the beautiful things about basketball is that it is one of the few sports that can be played competitively inside. All you need is a ball and enough people to play the game.
Basketball has always been a good way for kids to learn teamwork and good sportsmanship.
The problem though is that there are some kids that for whatever reason end up taking the game a little too seriously.
These days, it seems that young people are forgetting that basketball is a game and that games are supposed to be fun.
Sure, sports can be taken seriously, but not too seriously. When things get to the point of becoming violent that’s when it crosses over into people taking things too seriously.
For example, police in California have opened up an investigation following an extremely violent incident at a youth basketball game.
In a game between two groups of thirteen year old boys, a player violently started stomping the head of a member of the opposing team.
The whole thing started when the two played collided with each other on the court and a scramble for the ball ensued.
One of the boys went down to the court, with another player from the opposing team running up to the downed boy and stomping him repeatedly in the head.
An official immediately intervened and got the young boy’s attacker off the court.
The poor child that was attacked has been dealing with issues that one would have following a concussion.
It’s still sort of unclear if there were words exchanged between the two teams before the game, or at least before the attack.
It just goes to show that there is such a problem with people immediately thinking that every issue can be solved with violence that things like this are becoming all too common.
We need to work together to make sure that kids these days know that there are better ways.
