All eyes were on North Korea in the early hours of Thursday morning as they launched a missile over Japan, causing panic among citizens and governments alike.

The projectile flew across Japanese airspace into the Pacific Ocean, prompting an emergency warning from the government who told residents of Okinawa to take cover indoors.

So far it is unclear what the target was, however, reports suggest that Pyongyang had planned to launch a satellite later this month in an attempt to do so again.

The event has caused widespread alarm among many countries concerning the security of Japan, and rightly so.

In response, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s X account released a statement along with videos which showed footage of the missile flying through the sky over Japan.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff also released a statement saying that it was “what North Korea called a ‘space launch vehicle’.”

This latest incident has raised numerous questions about international relations between North Korea and other countries worldwide – particularly those in Asia who are most affected by its actions.

It seems that tensions are likely to remain high until more information becomes available regarding North Korean intentions with their recent action, or if steps can be taken to de-escalate any potential threats posed by these missiles being fired in close proximity to populated areas.

At present time there is still much unknown about what exactly happened during this missile launch, or what repercussions could arise due to it – both domestically and internationally – but one thing we can expect is increased scrutiny from all nations involved as they seek answers concerning this incident.

This is a developing story with new details continuing to come in.
