Home Depot Posted This Controversial Notice

A branch of Home Depot located in Canada has found itself under fire after a notice to its employee staff was shared online.

The notice detailed the benefits of “white privilege” and included a checklist for those who identify as “white, male, Christian, cisgender, able-bodied, and heterosexual.”

This report is designed to analyze the packet entitled “Leading Practices – Unpacking privilege” that was posted in the employee lounge of this particular store location.

A Canadian branch of Home Depot posted a notice for employees shaming them for

This controversial notice reportedly contained information about social advantages such as white privilege, class privilege, Christian privilege, and cisgender privilege.

It also highlighted how these privileges can be beneficial to some individuals within the population while being detrimental to others.

For example it explained that “If you’re confident that the police exist to protect you, you have white privilege.” or “If you can expect time off from work to celebrate your religious holidays, you have Christian privilege.”

It also identified those who are able-bodied, heterosexual and male as additional types of privilege.

After a copy of this notice went viral on Twitter people began making threats to boycott this Canadian store location.

As a result Home Depot issued an official statement through their spokeswoman which said: “While we fully support diversity across our company, this material was not created or approved by our corporate diversity equity and inclusion department. This was a resource in our Canadian division and not part of any required programming.”

Furthermore they took no stance on whether or not this informative packet would be discontinued in their Canadian division so it remains unclear what the future holds for this initiative.

Many conservatives and free speech advocates have pushed back against attempts by companies like Home Depot and colleges to impose so called “woke” indoctrination which is why one Twitter user made comments such as: “Imagine how messed up people have to be before a major corporation decides to post this in their break room.”

A lot of people agree with these kinds of sentiments because they feel like companies should focus more on providing good services rather than engaging in political debates among its employees.
