One of the most iconic stars of daytime television, Bob Barker, passed away on August 26th at the age of 99.

He was best known for hosting The Price Is Right for 35 years and was also recognized in Guinness World Records as television’s “most durable performer” due to his 18-year run on Truth or Consequences.

Barker left an indelible legacy in both broadcasting and animal rights activism that will live on for many generations.

His death has left a void in daytime television and sparked an outpouring of grief from fans all over the world.

Robert Barker was born in Darrington, Washington, on December 12th 1923 to Matilda and Byron Barker.

His father worked as an electrical power foreman before passing away suddenly when Bob was just six years old.

His mother later remarried and moved the family to Springfield, Missouri where Bob attended high school.

It was there he met Dorothy Jo Gideon whom he would marry four years later after graduating from Drury College with a degree in economics.

During this time he served as a fighter pilot during World War II before getting into radio with his own show “The Bob Barker Show” which led him to landing his first television role hosting Truth or Consequences in 1956 where he stayed until 1974.

Six years later he took over hosting duties for The Price is Right which would become one of the longest running game shows ever made lasting until 2007 when he retired at the age of 83 after 50 consecutive years working in broadcasting earning him 19 Emmy Awards throughout his career including a lifetime achievement award.

Despite Bob Baker’s retirement 14 years ago, production continued without skipping a beat under current host Drew Carey since 2007.

While this summer will see them moving off the Television City lot in Los Angeles (where more than 9500 episodes have been taped since 1972), it won’t diminish Bob’s legacy or erase memories of what has been one of television’s longest running shows ever – proving that there truly can never be another price is right.

Bob Barker also made headlines for his passionate support of animals during the 1987 Miss USA pageant when producers refused to stop awarding fur coats as prizes resulting in him resigning from his position after 21 years hosting the event.

In 1995 he started The DJ&T Foundation which provided low-cost clinics or voucher programs to spay or neuter pets, striving to help control animal overpopulation.

This organization gave large endowments ranging from $500K-$1M dollars each year into 2021 when it unfortunately closed its doors due lack of funding.

However the organization left behind an incredible legacy that will carry on forever thanks to all those who joined forces with Mr. Barker by supporting this mission through donations, volunteering and other means.

To honor Mr. Barkers life let us continue advocating for animals worldwide and spreading awareness about how we can all make a difference.
