Though it’s been noted as a rare occurrence in this part of the world, recently two tornadoes ripped through parts of Eastern China, leaving death and devastation in its path. Recently, a devastating storm caused the formation of two deadly tornadoes that took the lives of 10 people and left four others serious injured.

The first tornado struck the city of Suqian in Jiangsu Province on Tuesday afternoon, destroying over 130 homes and damaging croplands and pig farms.

This tragic event left five people dead and four others severely injured.

Later in the evening, Yancheng City was also visited by a tornado which further caused devastation – taking five more lives.

Videos of the first incident circulated online showing overturned cars, flying debris, and fires allegedly resulting from power lines being knocked down.

In response to the dual disasters, the Chinese government has vowed to take immediate action to help those affected by the tornadoes.

The Ministry of Emergency Management announced it would send personnel to investigate damage from both twisters while providing aid to victims’ families and helping them put their lives back together as soon as possible.

They also pledged financial assistance for those whose homes were destroyed or damaged beyond repair.

Tornadoes are not common occurrences in China and this day of disasters sparked panic among citizens all across the country.

This incident wasn’t even the first instance wherein two deadly tornadoes had hit eastern parts of China within one day.

In fact on May 14, 2021, another similar occurrence took place in Wuhan and Shengze towns of Hubei province where twelve people died and hundreds were injured due to massive destruction caused by these twisters.

Fortunately, power supply as well as road services have already been restored in Suqian area after this tragic event occurred.

However, it goes without saying that restoration services alone cannot undo what has happened – both families who lost their loved ones as well as those who were severely injured will take time to recover from such an unfortunate disaster.

Thus far there has not been any statement provided by government officials regarding compensation or relief measures for these affected individuals but hopefully they will be taken care of soon enough.
