When I would go to the store with my father when I was a kid, even into my early teen years it was sort of a special event.
I lived in a small town in Michigan where the first retail store of any decent size was a good trip away. Usually this was a trip on the weekend, or a school holiday.
I would get there and end up spending half the time while my dad walked around for things he needed at the magazine rack reading, or just wandering around the store.
There were no cell phones, no real way of knowing where your kids were. My father had kind of a general idea of where I was at, but only a loose one. As far as he knew I was in the store.
If he needed to find me, he would always stand by the magazine rack and wait. If I didn’t turn up, that’s when either he got worried or there would be hell to pay.
These days, you have a million different ways to keep an eye on your kids. My sister has a daughter that has a watch that its whole premise of existing is to keep track of where she is.
However, that doesn’t mean that there still isn’t a danger to our children.
Recently, a father from Michigan was in a local Target location and noticed something that wasn’t quite right.
He noticed that there were a lot of suspicious-looking vehicles in the very back of the parking lot. If you haven’t been to a Target lately, their lots are actually pretty big.
Some have an area that folks sit in for what seems like long periods of time. Almost as if they are staking out customers that they might be able to kidnap and traffic for absolutely horrific purposes.
What these people are apparently doing is looking for people that are shopping at night that might look vulnerable to attack and kidnapping.
They are then pulling up to them as if they are asking a simple question, and then kidnapping them.
With the amount of cars that go through a Target parking lot in a given day, it’s no wonder that so many people are getting nervous like this father.
It’s why everyone who is shopping with their wife and kids should do what I do, and have them wait by the entrance and pull up to get them. It’s way safer.
