Palmdale Police don’t even have a surveillance video to go on yet, so they’re asking for all the help from the public they can get. The Los Angeles area municipality is on the hunt for the suspect or suspects who ambushed Deputy Ryan Clinkunbroomer. The 30-year-old patrol officer was found dead in his cruiser around 6 p.m., Saturday evening September 16, near the sheriff’s station in Palmdale.

Police hunting for killer

Police don’t have a single thing to go on. Authorities with the Los Angeles County sheriff’s office announced the brutal murder of their deputy while on duty. At the same time, they’re alerting the public to all the details they can divulge.

He was “found unconscious by a civilian in his patrol car around 6 p.m. near the sheriff’s station in Palmdale.” The department adds that’s “about 60 miles north of Los Angeles.

Deputy Clinkunbroomer was “in uniform and on duty” in his marked patrol cruiser. Solo since they don’t have enough officers to partner them up. It’s not clear if the police car was in motion when the deputy was ambushed and killed.

No suspect description was provided and it’s unknown who opened fire on the deputy.” Anyone who might have relevant video is urged to give them a jingle.

We really need your help. We need to get this guy off the street – guy or guys. He’s a public safety threat. He ambushed and killed – murdered – one of our deputies. We need your help to get him off the street,” Los Angeles Sheriff Robert Luna requested.

Police have reason to believe that the shooting was “targeted.

Officer or simply the uniform

Sheriff Luna is convinced that the ambush style assassination was a targeted attack. What isn’t clear is whether Deputy Clinkunbroomer was specifically meant to be murdered or whether it was over simply the fact every police officer on the street in general is wearing a big red bullseye for a uniform.

I think it was a targeted act based on what we know now, but we’re still in the extremely early stages of this investigation.

It could have been just the fact that he was representing the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department as one of our employees. We don’t know.

What the police do know is that the deputy “was just driving down the street and for no apparent reason and we’re still looking into the specific reasons – somebody decided to shoot and murder him. I’m assuming at this point, because he was in uniform.

The deputy wasn’t a rookie and had been a police officer for eight years. He was “transferred to the Palmdale sheriff’s station in 2018.” On the day he was murdered, he “was serving as a field training officer.” Not only that, “our deputy was a devoted family member and a cherished community member,” Luna said. “He was cowardly shot while working tirelessly to serve our community this evening.

The deputy came from a long line of Blue Bloods. “His father and grandfather both served in the sheriff’s department.” Even more tragically, “He had just gotten engaged four days ago. The young police officer was just starting his life. Service was running through his veins. He embodied the values of bravery, selflessness and was committed to justice. Our deputy was a devoted family member and a cherished community member.
